Differences between Clause and Phrase

আমরা অনেকেই Phrase কে Clause এর সাথে এবং Clause কে Phrase এর সাথে গুলিয়ে ফেলি। খুব ভালো করে জানা না থাকলে যারা Grammar খুব ভাল বোঝেন তারা ও সমস্যায় পড়ে যান। তাই সবার জন্য আমাদের আজকের এই ছোট্ট Post Phrase এবং Clause এর পার্থক্যের উপর।

Clause	Phrase
“A clause is a group of related words that must have a subject and a finite verb” অর্থাৎ clause হলো কয়েকটি word এর সমষ্টি যেখানে একসাথে অবশ্যই একটি subject এবং একটি finite verb থাকে।Ex: Ranu has completed her assignment. (Ranu= Subject, has completed= finite verb, her assignment= object)	“A phrase is a group of related words that do not have a subject and a finite verb” অর্থাৎ phrase হলো কয়েকটি word এর সমষ্টি যেখানে একসাথে কখনই একটি subject এবং একটি finite verb থাকে না।Ex: The village boys are swimming in the river. (in the river= phrase, যেখানে একসাথে subject এবং finite verb নেই।
Clause নিজে sentence হতে পারে আবার sentence এর অংশ (part of a sentence) হিসেবে বসতে পারে।Ex: They are playing chess. (sentence টি একটি মাত্র clause দিয়ে গঠিত অর্থাৎ clause টি নিজেই একটি sentence) When they entered the room, she was studying. (‘when they entered the room’ হলো একটি clause একইভাবে ‘she was studying’ হলো আর একটি clause এবং এই দুইটি clause নিয়েই হলো একটি complete sentence)	Phrase কখনই নিজে sentence হতে পারে না; সব সময়ই sentence এর অংশ হিসেবে বসে।Ex: They are playing in the room. (‘in the room’ হচ্ছে একটি phrase যা কখনই sentence হতে পারবে না, একইভাবে কোন phrase ই complete sentence হতে পারে না।)
Clause এর অংশ হিসেবে phrase বসতে পারে।Ex: They are playing in the room. (‘in the room’ এই phrase টি are playing এর extension হিসেবে বসেছে যা ঐ clause এর অংশ।)	Phrase এর অংশ হিসেবে clause বসতে পারে না।
Clause ছাড়া sentence হতে পারে না।Ex: We play football. (এই sentence টিতে যেহেতু subject (We)এবং finite verb (play)বিদ্যমান, সেহেতু এটি অবশ্যই একটি clause)	Phrase ছাড়া sentence হতে পারে।Ex: We play football. (We= pronoun as subject, play= verb, football= noun as object অর্থাৎ এই sentence এ কোন phrase নেই)
